Standing at the VVIP Box of Mkapa Stadium, Overlooking 60,000 Yanga fans packed the stands, chanting, cheering, and blowing their vuvuzelas so loud, it reminded me the unmatched spirit of Yanga fans they never cease to amaze, and this year’s Mwananchi Day which happened on Friday was a perfect reminder.
Mwananchi Day, which began a few years ago and is always preceded by a week of CSR and fan activations across the country, has grown into a true celebration of our club. The day brings together music, football, and culture, with the highlight being the unveiling of new players and a friendly match with an international club.
This year was especially historic. The Minister of Lands, Hon. Deo Ndejembi, officially handed us the Title Deed for Jangwani, the site of our long-awaited modern stadium. Just a week earlier, this was promised within 14 days - yet in record time it was delivered before tens of thousands of our fans, in the presence of Hon. Antony Mavunde (Minister of Minerals), Government Spokesperson Gerson Msigwa, our sponsor Ghalib Said Mohamed (GSM), Vice President Arafat Haji, and members of our Excom. The moment was made even more special when we received a congratulatory call from the President of Tanzania, H.E. Samia Suluhu Hassan, who wished us success in the coming season. Truly, this marked another milestone towards our dream of building our own stadium.

We also proudly introduced our Women’s Team and Men’s Senior Team. It was a moment of pride for our players and an emotional reminder of what Yanga means to the people. For the new signings, it was a clear message: with the yellow and green jersey comes enormous responsibility.
Entertainment was at its best with an incredible line-up of local artists. D Voice and Zuchu from WCB stole the show with stunning choreography and an electrifying set that culminated in a breathtaking night-time light show at Mkapa Stadium.
On the pitch, we faced Bandari FC from Mombasa in a thrilling friendly. Our new signing, Celestin Ecua, gave fans an early glimpse of his talent, scoring the only goal of the match and sealing a 1–0 victory.
It was a day of joy, and unity and On behalf of Yanga, we extend heartfelt thanks to our incredible fans who filled Mkapa Stadium, our sponsors and partners who made this event possible, and a special mention to Alistair Wallace, the international photographer, and Nozibusiso Sibiya from SABC Sport, who attended Yanga Day for the very first time.
Indeed, Mwananchi Day 2025 was one for the history books, a celebration of our past, present, and future.
