Introducing Yanga Soccer Schools

Introducing Yanga Soccer Schools

Back in 2022, when I was running for the Young Africans SC Presidency, I outlined five key priorities: Infrastructure, Transformation, Financial Stability, Fan Engagement, and Academy Development.
Over the past few years, working closely with the Club’s EXCOM, we have made tremendous progress across all these pillars, and we continue to strive toward fully achieving our long-term vision.

Among these priorities, strengthening our youth structure has always been one of the most critical. Building a sustainable talent pipeline is essential for the future of our squad one that identifies players early, nurtures them through a clear football philosophy, and instills in them the true meaning of wearing the Yanga badge.

While we currently have the U-17 and U-20 structures in place, we are missing a vital foundation in the younger age categories. To put this in context, according to the National Bureau of Statistics Census of 2022, Tanzania has a population of 61,741,120 people—of which 26,399,988 are children aged between 0–14, making up 42.8% of the entire population.

With such a massive youth base, even tapping into just 1% of this potential could completely transform football development in our country. Yet the shortage of professional academies across the nation continues to limit these young, untapped talents. It is from this reality that we saw an opportunity and a responsibility for Yanga SC to step forward and be part of the solution.

Tomorrow, at the SpeedSports Muhimbili Centre, we will officially launch one of our most ambitious youth development projects: Yanga Soccer Schools.
The program will begin with the U-11, U-13, and U-15 categories in Dar es Salaam, focusing on identifying and developing young talent for both the club and the nation. Dar es Salaam, being the country’s most populated city and our home base, will serve as the launchpad. Once the foundation is firmly established, the next phase will expand to regions outside Dar, ensuring that opportunities reach children across the country including those in remote areas.

This project also aims to extend into both private and government schools, creating a sustainable youth development ecosystem through a well-structured pathway that will nurture talent from the grassroots level all the way to the senior team.

I am especially delighted that my friend and African football legend, Coach Pitso Mosimane, will join us as Guest of Honor. Pitso has been a long-time friend of both myself and the club,he is indeed a well decorated coach in Africa, winning 21 major titles across Africa & the Middle East. First South African to win CAF Champions League (x3) and Bronze Medals at the FIFA Club World Cup (x2). . His attendance adds immense value to this occasion, drawing from his vast expertise in youth development and his success with the Mosimane Soccer Clinics in South Africa he established in 2022 and now serving over 12,000 young players with 92 coaches across 3 provinces.

We are truly honored to have him with us as we take this significant step in our youth development journey.
You are all warmly invited to join us for this milestone, as we invest in the future of our club and the future of Tanzanian football.
